The purpose of this project, was not to just pick any topic and create designs for it, but rather to pick a personal subject, something meaningful, and to make a statement about it. This was our chance to tell a story, and "make the viewer care".
Being the passionate DJ that I am, I chose to combine my story of who I am, while "visually interpreting what I think sound and music look like".
I picked 5 genres of music: Heavy Metal Rock, Electronica/Dance, Rhythm & Blues, Classical, and Soul Calypso.
For each genre, I created a poster series of 3 posters that work independently and collectively as a series, and CD album designs for the music that I listened to for inspiration.
At the senior show, I had each series on display, allowing the viewer to experience their own connections and visualizations.
I also created a book for this project, telling my story, who I am, my thoughts and inspirations. I educate the viewer to what music and sound technically are. In addition, I explain my thought process and inspirations behind each genre I chose to listen to and design for.
